Happy Monday Everyone.
I’m so glad it’s March….it means Spring is on the way and this soul-killing weather will soon die away. This month has been extremely busy with school work piling up and applying to internships for the summer semester. I was actually in New York City a few weeks ago to visit a friend and we had the best time ever. I’m not sure whether it’s the lure of the intensely trendy fashion industry workers, the never-ending list of gourmet restaurants, or the best shopping in all of the world, but something always draws me in. When I’m in the city I can’t help but channel my inner Carrie Bradshaw, Blair Waldorf and Shoshanna Shapiro (if it’s even possible to combine those three characters). I imagine where each of these famous TV personas would eat lunch, shop, and venture and feel an immediate desire to go there. Each time I’ve gone to New York I’ve made a list of about 20 places to see, but I always end up maybe getting to one or two and finding a million other cool places instead. Needless to say, I love NYC and I cannot wait to move there once I finish school next year!
Obviously, if you have never been to New York City I suggest hitting up the regular tourists spots such as Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, and all that, but for the more fashion-inspired tourist, here’s a little inspiration for your next NYC trip:
1. Buvette. Go here for Brunch. Located in the West Village, it’s perfect for a date with their abundance of red wine and cheeses or simply catching up with a friend. Plenty of fresh mini croissants, rich lattes, and not to mention the elegant French decor. Stroll down Bleecker Street after for a little mid day shopping. Don’t forget a Magnolia pitstop.
2. Saturday morning, snap a few Instas on the The High Line and check out the Chelsea Market. My personal favourites here include: Amy’s Bread (bakery), Cull & Pistol (Oyster Bar), the Doughnuttery (self-explanatory), and Posman Books (boutique stationary & bookstore).
3. Gossip over lunch with girlfriends at ABC Kitchen Restaurant. I personally would go for the Akaushi Cheeseburger and wash it down with a Gojin & Juice cocktail. The restaurant is an off-shoot of the amazing home design store ABC so be sure to make a shopping trip out of lunch.
4. Hit up Brooklyn for Brunch and some Vintage Shopping. Best Brooklyn Brunch spots include Five Leaves and Ted & Honey. Best Vintage Shops include Mafalda and Eva Gentry Consignment.
5. If you’ve got another free morning for breakfast, I would also hit up Jack’s Wife Freda. This is the perfect place to start off a day of shopping in Soho. Favourite stores include Creatures of Comfort, which offers a perfectly-curated mix of laid-back and sophisticated pieces, and then there’s Resurrection, featuring pricey vintage pieces that are well worth checking out even if you can’t afford it!
6. A few restaurant recommendations :
The Fat Radish, located on the Lower East Side, is a casual gourmet food restaurant featuring fresh and local ingredients. To Order: Devilled Brussels Sprouts, Truffled Duck Fat Chips, Edlerflower Lemonade, and the Montauk Diver Scallops
Roberta’s located in Bushwick, this restaurant has catered for the Guggenheim and Milk Studios and is well-known for their delicious stone-oven pizzas. To Order: the Good Girl Pizza, Coffee Roasted Beets, and the Roasted Pumpkin.
Lafayette located in Noho is a fashionable two-floor French Grande Cafe good for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. To Order: the Black Fettuccine, cuttlefish, ruby shrimp and chorizo, the Nantucket Bay Scallops to start, and the Martinique Mule to drink.
The Beatrice Inn located in the West Village, this place is a classic Chophouse brought to you by Graydon Carter, editor in chief of Vanity Fair. Go here for your steak fix.
Make sure you hit up at least one of these restaurants. I promise they are all well worth it, if not for the food, then the people.
I know the list can go on and on and I could keep naming places but I think I better stop for the sake of this post. As I mentioned, I’m slightly obsessed with NYC so shoot me a message if you would like more recommendations.
